Is Bhuvana a doctor?
Bhuvana is a qualified dietitian (M.Sc, M.Phil). She works alongside your doctor and does not replace medical treatment.
Which languages can I consult in?
Bhuvana consults in Tamil, English, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
What is the difference between a dietitian, a dietician and a nutritionist?
Dietitian and dietician are two spellings of the same profession. A dietitian is trained in clinical nutrition and plans diets for health conditions; “nutritionist” is a broader title. Bhuvana B holds an M.Sc (Gold Medalist) and M.Phil in Dietetics. Whoever you choose, ask about their qualifications.
How do I choose a good dietitian?
Look for a degree in dietetics or clinical nutrition, experience with your kind of problem, and a plan made for you instead of a standard chart. Ask how follow-up works and whether they push supplements. Read their Google reviews, and check that the fees are clear before you pay.
Who is the best dietitian in Tambaram or Chennai?
We cannot judge ourselves, so we suggest you compare. Look at qualifications, whether the plan is personal, how follow-up works and whether the fees are clear. You can read our Google reviews before you decide. Healthy Diet Studio is on Mudichur Main Road near Tambaram and offers online consultations across India.
Can a dietitian prescribe medicines or weight-loss injections?
No. Dietitians plan food and habits, not medicines. If your doctor has prescribed a medicine, we plan your meals around it. Please talk to your doctor about any medicine, injection or surgery for weight.
Is Bhuvana a member of the Indian Dietetic Association?
Yes. She is a life member of the Indian Dietetic Association (IDA).
Where is the clinic?
NSR Complex, 1st Floor, 21/24, Mudichur Main Road, Lakshmi Nagar (opposite Bank of Baroda), Mudichur, Chennai 600048.
What are the clinic hours?
Please call or WhatsApp to confirm your slot. We will find a time that suits you.
Booking and the consultation
Can I consult online?
Yes. Consultations and weekly reviews work over phone, video and WhatsApp. The clinic is in Mudichur, Tambaram.
How soon will I see results?
It varies by person, so we do not promise numbers. You will know your target and pace after your assessment.
How do I book an appointment?
Fill in the short form on this website, or call or WhatsApp +91 91505 50354. We call you back within 2 working hours to fix a time at the clinic in Mudichur or online.
How does the first consultation work?
It is a 45-minute talk with dietitian Bhuvana B, at the clinic in Mudichur or online. She asks about your food, daily routine, health history, medicines and reports, and you can ask anything. You leave with a personal diet plan.
What happens after I join the programme?
We start with a 45-minute assessment and your personal plan. Then you get regular reviews where we check progress and change the plan if needed.
Will I have to follow strict diets or give up my favourite foods?
No. We adjust portions, timing and combinations so you keep the food you enjoy.
Will I learn how to plan my own diet?
Yes. A big part of the programme is teaching you portions, swaps and habits, so you can keep going on your own.
What is health coaching?
Health coaching means working with a trained professional who helps you set goals, build a personal plan and stick to new habits for lasting health.
What should I bring or share before the consultation?
Keep your recent reports (for example blood sugar, thyroid, vitamin D and cholesterol), the list of medicines you take, and a rough idea of what you eat on a normal day. The reports are optional, and you can start without them.
Do I need blood reports to start?
No. Reports help, especially for diabetes, thyroid, PCOS, cholesterol or liver problems, but they are optional. If something is missing, Bhuvana will tell you which test to discuss with your doctor.
Do I need to cook separate food for myself?
Usually not. Your plan is built on the food your family already cooks, with changes in portions, timing and what goes with the meal. If something needs to be cooked differently, we keep it simple.
Is an online consultation as good as visiting the clinic?
Most diet planning is a conversation about your food, routine and reports, so it works well over phone or video. If you prefer to be measured in person, you can visit the clinic in Mudichur.
Can I consult from outside Chennai or India?
Yes. Online consultations work from anywhere in India. If you live abroad, call or WhatsApp us and we will find a time that suits you.
How long does a diet plan take to work?
It depends on your starting point, your health and how closely you can follow the plan. Many people notice changes in hunger, energy and digestion before the weight changes. We do not promise numbers. You will know your target and pace after your assessment.
Is my information private?
Yes. The details you share are used only to prepare your plan and to contact you. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Fees and programmes
What is the dietitian consultation fee?
The first consultation costs ₹2,000. It is a 45-minute assessment with dietitian Bhuvana B and includes your personal diet plan. Programmes of 1, 3 or 6 months (₹12,000, ₹30,000, ₹50,000) are optional.
Is the first consultation free?
No. The first consultation costs ₹2,000. It is a 45-minute assessment with the dietitian and includes your personal diet plan. Free or very cheap charts are usually templates that ignore your reports, routine and food.
Do I have to join a programme after the first consultation?
No. You can take the consultation and follow the plan on your own. A programme adds regular review calls, meal tracking support and plan changes.
What is included in a programme?
Your assessment and personal plan, meal tracking support, and regular review calls (fortnightly on the 1-month plan, weekly on the 3 and 6-month plans).
Which programme should I choose?
A 1-month programme suits a clear short goal. A 3-month programme gives steadier support, with weekly review calls, for weight change or a health condition. A 6-month programme is for a full lifestyle change. If you are not sure, start with the first consultation and decide afterwards.
How can I pay?
We share payment details when we call to confirm your slot. Please ask us about options for the longer programmes.
Is there a refund if I change my mind?
No. Fees paid are not refundable. This applies to the first consultation and to every programme, so please ask us any question you have before you pay.
Why is a dietitian more expensive than a diet app or a gym chart?
Apps and gym charts give general targets. A dietitian reads your reports, medicines and daily routine, and changes the plan as you go. If you only want tracking or reminders, an app can be a useful extra.
Where can I see all your fees?
On the Packages page: the first consultation is ₹2,000, and the 1, 3 and 6-month programmes are ₹12,000, ₹30,000 and ₹50,000. We confirm everything on the call before you pay.
Weight loss
Do I have to give up rice, idli or dosa?
No. We adjust portions, timing and combinations so you keep the food you enjoy.
Can I get a South Indian diet plan for weight loss?
Yes. Your plan is built around South Indian meals such as idli, dosa, rice, sambar, rasam and millets. It is made for you, not a generic PDF chart.
How can I lose weight with Indian food?
You do not have to give up rice, idli, dosa or chapati. Weight loss comes from the right portions, regular meal times, enough protein (dal, curd, eggs, paneer, fish or chicken), more vegetables, less oil and sugar, and daily movement. A dietitian builds this around the meals you already cook.
Can I lose weight eating rice every day?
Yes, for most people. What matters is how much rice you eat, what else is on the plate and your food for the whole day. A smaller serving of rice with plenty of vegetables, dal and curd is a common way to do it. If you have diabetes, ask your doctor or dietitian for the portion that suits you.
Is chapati better than rice for weight loss?
Not always. Both are carbohydrates, so the portion matters more than the type. Chapati made with a lot of oil or ghee, or eaten in large numbers, can have as many calories as rice. With either one, add dal, vegetables and a protein food to feel full for longer.
Can I eat idli, dosa and sambar while losing weight?
Yes. Steamed idli with sambar and vegetables can be a good meal. Dosa depends on the size, the oil and what goes with it. Your plan sets how many to eat, which sides to choose and when, so you keep the food you grew up with.
Should I skip dinner to lose weight?
Skipping dinner is not a good rule for most people. You may get very hungry later, snack more, and miss out on protein. An earlier, lighter dinner usually works better. If you have diabetes or take medicines that need regular meals, do not skip meals without your doctor’s advice.
Is intermittent fasting good for weight loss?
It suits some healthy adults and not others. It is not advised for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with diabetes who take medicines, or anyone with a history of disordered eating, unless a doctor says it is safe. Many people also lose weight with regular balanced meals, so speak to a dietitian before you start.
Is the keto diet good for weight loss?
Keto cuts carbohydrates very low and relies on fat. It is hard to keep up with Indian family meals, and it may not suit people with high cholesterol, fatty liver, kidney problems, diabetes on medicines, or women who are pregnant. Our plans use balanced home food instead.
How many kilos can I lose in a month?
There is no fixed number, because bodies, health conditions and routines differ, so we do not promise one. Most health guidelines call a steady pace of about half to one kilo a week safe and easier to keep. Fast loss in the first week or two is often water. Be careful with anyone who promises 10 kilos in a month: that is a crash diet.
Why am I not losing weight even though I eat less?
Common reasons are hidden calories (oil, sweets, tea with sugar, snacks and drinks), too little protein that leaves you hungry and overeating later, poor sleep, stress, eating more at weekends, and health conditions such as thyroid problems or PCOS. A dietitian goes through your food, routine and reports to find the reason. See your doctor too if you have symptoms such as tiredness, hair fall or irregular periods.
What is a weight loss plateau and how do I get past it?
A plateau is when your weight stays the same for a few weeks. Often portions have crept up, activity has dropped or the plan has not been updated. A dietitian reviews your meals, protein, sleep and movement and changes the plan. That is why regular reviews matter.
Do I need to exercise to lose weight?
You can lose weight by changing your food alone, but regular movement helps you keep it off, protects your muscles and is good for your heart and blood sugar. Daily walking is a good start, and strength exercises help too. If you have a health condition, check with your doctor first.
Can I lose fat only from my belly?
No. Food and exercise cannot remove fat from one place only. Belly fat comes down as your overall body fat comes down. Regular meals, enough protein and fibre, less sugar and refined food, good sleep and daily walking all help.
Will the weight come back after I stop the diet?
It often does if you go back to old habits. That is why a plan should teach you portions, swaps and meal habits you can keep, and what to do after the programme ends. Aim for a pace you can live with, not a short crash diet.
Do detox drinks, lemon-honey water or juice cleanses work?
No. Your liver and kidneys already clear waste from your body. Detox drinks and juice cleanses can leave you hungry and low on protein, and the weight usually returns. Regular meals of real food work better.
Can I eat sweets, enjoy festivals or eat out while losing weight?
Yes. You do not have to avoid every celebration. Choose a smaller portion, have one sweet instead of three, eat slowly, and go back to your usual meals at the next meal instead of skipping. Your plan can include festival days and eating out.
What is the best diet for weight loss in India?
There is no single best diet. The best one is a balanced plan you can follow for months: enough protein (dal, curd, eggs, fish, paneer, chicken), vegetables, whole grains or millets, and fewer sweets and fried foods, in portions that suit you. It should also suit your health conditions, work hours and taste.
Do I need to count calories?
Not every day. We plan your meals and portions for you, so you can follow a simple plate and meal list instead of counting numbers.
Can I lose weight after 40 or after menopause?
Yes, though it can be slower because of hormone changes, loss of muscle and lower activity. Enough protein and calcium, regular meals and some strength exercise matter more at this stage. Your plan can be made with menopause in mind.
Does drinking warm water in the morning help with weight loss?
Drinking enough water is good for health and can help you feel full, but warm water alone does not burn fat. Treat it as a healthy habit, not a weight loss method.
Weight gain and muscle
Will I gain only fat?
No. The aim is healthy weight with enough protein and activity, not junk calories.
Can I get my weight gain diet plan explained in Tamil?
Yes. Bhuvana consults in Tamil, English, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi, and explains your plan in the language you are comfortable with.
How can I gain weight with Indian food?
Add healthy calories to the food you already eat. Have regular meals with one or two snacks, include protein at every meal (dal, milk, curd, eggs, paneer, fish or chicken), and add nuts, banana and a little ghee or oil. Eating regularly matters more than eating a lot at one time.
Why am I not gaining weight even though I eat a lot?
Possible reasons are skipped meals, low appetite, a very active routine, digestion problems, stress, or a medical cause such as a thyroid problem. A dietitian looks at your meals and routine to find the reason first. If you have lost weight without trying, please see a doctor as well.
Do I need protein powder or a mass gainer to gain weight?
No. Real food is enough for most people. We plan weight gain with normal meals and no powders or mass gainers.
How can a thin person gain muscle instead of fat?
Eat enough through the day with protein in every meal, and do strength training with proper guidance. Gaining weight without exercise adds more fat than muscle. A dietitian can match your meals to your training.
Is it okay to eat junk food, sweets or fried snacks to gain weight?
They add weight, mostly as fat, and over time they can raise cholesterol and blood sugar. It is better to add calories from nutritious food such as milk, curd, nuts, eggs, paneer, dal and banana.
How long does healthy weight gain take?
It is usually slower than weight loss, and a steady pace is safer than fast gain. The time depends on your starting weight, appetite, health and activity, so we plan the pace with you after your assessment.
Diabetes, PCOS, thyroid and other conditions
Do you take patients with medical conditions?
Yes, including diabetes, thyroid, PCOS, kidney, liver and heart conditions. We work alongside your doctor’s treatment.
Can this work with diabetes, thyroid or PCOS?
Yes. Your plan takes your conditions into account. Please share your reports and medications during the consultation.
Which conditions do you help with?
Weight loss and gain, diabetes, PCOS/PCOD, thyroid, pregnancy and postpartum, child nutrition, menopause, cholesterol and heart health, kidney and liver diets, food intolerance and sports nutrition.
Do I need to stop my medicines?
No. We plan food alongside your doctor’s treatment. Never change medicines without your doctor’s advice.
Can this help with diabetes or blood pressure?
Yes. Your plan takes your conditions into account and works alongside your doctor’s treatment. Please share your reports during the consultation.
Can I follow a diabetes diet with Indian food?
Yes. Rice, chapati, idli and millets do not have to disappear. Portion size, what you eat with them and meal timing matter. Your plan is built around your reports and medicines. Never stop or change medicines without your doctor’s advice.
Can diabetes be reversed with diet?
Diet and weight loss can improve sugar control. In some people with type 2 diabetes they can reduce the medicines needed, but this must be watched by your doctor. We do not promise a cure, and you should never stop medicines on your own.
Which fruits can a person with diabetes eat?
Most whole fruits can fit into a diabetes plan in the right portion, for example apple, guava, papaya, pear or orange. Juices, dried fruits and large portions of very sweet fruit raise sugar faster. Your dietitian will tell you how much and when, based on your sugar levels.
Which diet is best for PCOS or PCOD?
There is no single PCOS diet. Most women do well with regular meals, enough protein, fibre from vegetables, dal and millets, less sugar and refined flour, and daily movement. If you have extra weight, even a modest loss can help some women. Your doctor guides the treatment, and the diet works alongside it.
Can I lose weight with a thyroid problem?
Yes, but it can be slower. First make sure your thyroid tablets and tests are in order with your doctor. Food alone does not cure the thyroid. A dietitian plans balanced meals that work alongside your treatment.
Do thyroid patients have to avoid cabbage, cauliflower or soy?
Most people do not need to avoid them completely. Cooked vegetables in normal amounts are usually fine. Ask your doctor about the timing of thyroid tablets with food, calcium and iron, and share your reports with your dietitian.
What diet helps with high cholesterol?
Cut down on fried food, bakery items, sweets and too much oil, ghee or coconut. Add fibre from oats, dal, vegetables and fruit, a small portion of nuts, and fish or other lean protein. Steaming, boiling and light sautéing are better than deep frying. Your dietitian tailors this to your reports.
Can fatty liver be improved with diet?
For many people, yes. Losing extra weight, cutting sugary drinks, sweets and fried food, avoiding alcohol and staying active can reduce fat in the liver. Your doctor monitors your liver, and the dietitian builds your meals around your reports.
Do you plan diets for kidney disease and dialysis?
Yes. Kidney diets need careful planning of protein, salt, potassium and fluids, and they are different for kidney disease and for dialysis. Please share your latest reports and your nephrologist’s advice.
Do you help with food intolerance such as lactose or gluten?
Yes. We help you find your trigger foods with a food diary and plan meals that avoid them without leaving you short of nutrients.
Food, drinks and supplements
Will you recommend supplements?
No. Plans use real food only: no powders, pills or meal replacements. If your doctor has prescribed a medicine or supplement (for example vitamin D or B12), keep taking it as advised.
How can vegetarians get enough protein?
Include dal, rajma, chana, moong and sprouts, curd, milk, paneer, tofu or soya chunks, nuts and seeds through the day. Eating pulses with rice or wheat in the same day gives a good mix. A dietitian can check that your totals are enough for your goal.
Can I eat eggs, fish and chicken while on a diet?
Yes. They are good protein foods when cooked with little oil: boiled, steamed, grilled or in a light curry. Deep fried items and heavy gravies add many calories.
Are ghee, coconut oil and butter bad for me?
Fats are needed, but they are rich in calories. A small measured amount of ghee or oil usually fits in a plan, while large amounts add up quickly. If you have high cholesterol or heart disease, your dietitian will advise on the type and amount.
Is jaggery, honey or palm sugar better than sugar?
They have a few minerals, but they are still sugar and affect weight and blood sugar in a similar way. Use small amounts, and speak to your dietitian if you have diabetes.
Are millets like ragi and kambu better than rice?
Millets have more fibre and some minerals, and they can be a good part of your plan. Portion still matters, and they are not a magic food. Many plans use millets together with rice and wheat, based on what you enjoy.
Is it okay to eat rice at night?
Yes, in a smaller portion with vegetables and dal or another protein. Try to eat dinner at least two hours before you sleep. Heavy late dinners are harder to digest and can affect your sleep.
What should I eat for breakfast to lose weight?
Choose a breakfast with protein and fibre, for example idli with sambar and vegetables, moong dal dosa, vegetable upma with curd, ragi dosa with chutney, or a boiled egg with fruit. Avoid sweet drinks and large portions of refined flour. Your plan lists options you like.
What snacks can I have when I feel hungry?
Roasted chana, sundal, fruit, buttermilk, a small handful of nuts, a boiled egg, or cucumber and carrot sticks with curd are good choices. Keep portions small and avoid biscuits, namkeen and sweets as daily snacks.
How do I control sugar cravings?
Eat regular meals with enough protein and fibre, sleep well, and keep sweets out of sight. A small planned sweet works better than fighting cravings all day. If cravings are extreme or come with other symptoms such as constant thirst, check with your doctor.
Is fruit bad because it has sugar?
Whole fruit also has fibre, water and vitamins, so it is fine for most people in sensible portions. Juices lose the fibre and add sugar quickly. If you have diabetes, your dietitian will tell you which fruits and how much.
How many meals should I eat in a day?
There is no magic number. Three meals with one or two small snacks suit most people. The aim is steady energy and no long gaps that lead to overeating. Your plan fits your work hours.
How much water should I drink in a day?
Many healthy adults do well with around eight to ten glasses a day, and more in hot weather or when you sweat a lot. People with kidney, heart or liver conditions may need limits, so follow your doctor’s advice.
What should I eat before and after a workout?
Before: a light snack with some carbohydrate one to two hours earlier, such as a banana or a small idli. After: protein with some carbohydrate, such as curd with fruit, eggs, sundal or paneer. Your dietitian matches this to your goal and training.
Are sprouts and salad enough for dinner?
They are healthy, but alone they may leave you hungry and short of protein. Add dal, paneer, eggs or curd, and a small serving of grains if you need it.
Is tea or coffee okay on a diet?
For most people, yes. The sugar and the number of cups are what add up. Cut sugar slowly (a little less each week) and do not drink tea or coffee in place of meals.
Kids, pregnancy and older adults
Do you work with children?
Yes. We plan meals around your child’s taste, school timings and your home cooking.
My child is underweight or a fussy eater. Can a dietitian help?
Yes. We plan meals around your child’s taste, school timings and your home cooking, with small meals and snacks, extra energy in foods your child already likes, and no force or bribes at the table. We also track height and weight. If your child is losing weight or not growing, please see a paediatrician as well.
Can children go on a weight loss diet?
Children should not be put on strict diets. The aim is healthy habits while they grow: regular meals, fewer sweet drinks and packaged snacks, more play and enough sleep. A dietitian checks growth and plans meals the whole family can share.
When can I start losing weight after delivery?
Wait until your doctor says your body has recovered, which can take longer after a C-section. Eat regular, nourishing meals in the meantime. A gentle plan can start once your doctor agrees. Crash diets can leave you weak and affect your milk.
Can I follow a weight loss diet while breastfeeding?
Not a crash diet. Breastfeeding needs extra energy, protein, calcium and fluids. A balanced plan lets weight come down slowly. Please get your doctor’s approval first.
Can a dietitian help during pregnancy?
Yes. We plan meals for each trimester that work with your gynaecologist’s advice and your reports (haemoglobin, sugar, thyroid). Pregnancy is not the time for a weight loss diet. The goal is nourishing food and healthy weight gain.
Do you help with gestational diabetes?
Yes. We plan meals and timings that help keep sugar steady, alongside your doctor’s treatment. Please share your reports and any medicines or insulin.
Can older people see a dietitian?
Yes. Older adults often need help with diabetes, blood pressure, kidney or heart conditions, enough protein and calcium, and meals that are easy to eat. A plan can be made around their reports and medicines.
Can teenagers see a dietitian?
Yes, with a parent’s involvement. Teenagers are still growing, so plans focus on balanced meals and good habits, not strict dieting. Sports nutrition is also available.
This is general guidance in plain words. It does not replace your doctor’s advice. Please read our medical disclaimer.
